Rheumatic Diseases

Rheumatic fever is a disease of children and teenagr. Usually disease began to occur 1 to 3 weeks after a person suffering from pharyngitis. A. Cause
Rheumatic fever is caused by a combination of bacterial infections and weak immune system of a person.
This disease begins with infection of the throat caused by Streptococcus bacteria.
Once the bacteria enter the body, it will grow and cause fever with flu. In many cases, children are more susceptible to infections of the throat. This flu will develop into rheumatic fever.

B. The main signs (there are usually 3 or 4 marks):
1. Heat
2. Joint pain, especially on the wrist and ankle, and elbow joints, swollen joints, and
3. often feel hot and appear red.
4. Red lines are curved or lumps under the skin.

C. Treatment:

3. Give penicillin, 400,000 units per tablet, one tablet four times daily for 10 days.

D. Prevention:
1. To prevent rheumatic fever, pharyngitis treated promptly with penicillin for 10 days.
2. To prevent a recurrence of rheumatic fever and additional damage to the heart, a child who had suffered from rheumatic fever should get penicillin for 10 days, so there are first signs of neck pain. If signs of heart damage has been seen, the child must receive regular penicillin get benzathin penicillin injections every month, perhaps during his lifetime.
